This I Have, Who Has? 2D Shapes game supports students in developing their understanding of geometric language through an engaging, interactive format. As students identify, name and describe common 2D shapes (e.g. square, rectangle, hexagon), they are building foundational knowledge of shape properties such as sides and corners, while strengthening their mathematical vocabulary and oral language skills.
This resource aligns with the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics content descriptors for:
-
Year 1 – Space
-
Year 2 – Space
Through gameplay, students are required to listen carefully, interpret shape names and visual representations, and respond appropriately, promoting active participation and collaborative learning. This supports the development of reasoning, communication and fluency as outlined in the Mathematics proficiencies.
Additionally, the oral language component of this activity links to the English strand: Language, as students practise speaking and listening skills when clearly reading prompts and responding to peers in a group setting.
