Turn your own handwriting into a real, installable font: the exact method behind every Mini Monsters font you have ever seen.

Honestly? I mostly use the same font. My go-to is Mini Monsters Clean, alternating with Mini Monsters Kindy. Bulletin Board and the special niche ones are just there to mix things up. One good font, made from YOUR handwriting, carries almost everything you make. That is the whole point of this guide.

How do you make your own font? (4 steps)

1. Write it: fill in the letter template with a pen (or a stylus, if you use a tablet).
2. Photograph or save it: a few photos on your phone, or save the digital templates straight from your tablet.
3. Build it: upload it to a font-making tool and it builds the file for you.
4. Install it: double-click, and it is sitting in Word, PowerPoint and every other desktop app like any other font. (Canva works a little differently, and the guide covers that too.)

That is the entire process. This guide walks you through every one of those four steps, screen by screen, so you are never guessing what to click next.

What do you need to make a handwriting font? (this is genuinely all of it)

• Your handwriting: pen and paper is enough. You literally take a photo with your phone.
• A FREE Calligraphr account (the online font-making tool this guide walks through, screen by screen). The free plan is genuinely enough: 75 characters covers a full alphabet, numbers and punctuation, working on one font at a time. A paid upgrade (from about USD $10 for a single month) lifts that to up to 20 fonts on the go at once, more characters, and extras like ligatures. More below.
• A computer to install your font on: Mac and Windows are both
• covered, step by step.
• An iPad or tablet with a stylus is OPTIONAL. No Procreate needed: the free apps already on your tablet work, and the guide lists them. I have made my fonts both ways, and both routes are inside.

Do I need to buy any software to make my own font?
No. A free Calligraphr account is genuinely enough to build your first font: 75 characters covers a full alphabet, numbers and punctuation. You can keep making fonts on the free plan too, one at a time. A paid upgrade (about USD $10 for one month, or roughly USD $6/month on their 6-month plan) is only worth it if you want several fonts on the go at once, more characters, or ligatures. And here is the part that matters: any font you finish is a standard .ttf or .otf file that keeps working forever, even if a paid upgrade lapses.

Do I need an iPad, Procreate or a drawing tablet?
No. You can write your alphabet on plain paper and photograph it with your phone. A tablet is optional: I have made fonts both ways and both routes are in the guide.

How long does it take to make your first font?
About an hour, start to finish. Roughly 40 minutes writing your alphabet with care, then 15 to 20 minutes to photograph, upload, build and install it.

Will my font work in Word, PowerPoint and Canva?
Word and PowerPoint: yes, instantly. Once installed it behaves like any other font, and the guide covers the "install for all users" step that makes it show up reliably on both Mac and Windows. Canva is different: web apps cannot see fonts installed on your computer, so you upload your font file into Canva instead (that upload is a Canva Pro, Teams or Education feature, not free Canva). The guide has a whole section on what web apps can and cannot see, so nothing catches you out.
