Year 11 Legal Studies – Unit 1: Investigating the Law (NSW 2025 Syllabus) | Complete Unit
$74 · Single-teacher licence
Get your weekends back this year.
I’m a Legal Studies teacher in NSW, and I wrote this unit for my own Year 11 class in 2027. It’s exactly what I’ll be teaching. The new syllabus means everyone is programming from scratch, so I’ve done the planning, slides, worksheets and assessment for you. You can spend your time teaching instead.
Investigating the Law is the biggest focus area of the year, at about 40 indicative hours. It covers:
- the foundations of law and justice
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Customary Lore
- sources of law
- courts and the Constitution
- the global legal system and legal rights
What’s inside
-
Notes decks (100+ slides): three topic decks plus a combined unit deck. Student copies have gaps to fill in and are safe to post on your class site. Completed copies include every answer and teaching notes.
-
Worksheets with answer keys: three of them, building from fill-in-the-gaps to source analysis and an extended response.
-
Handouts students keep all year:
- an 11-criteria evaluation card
- a 40-term key-terms glossary
- a plain-English command-terms sheet
-
Quick checks: three summary tests with keys, and a 45-question quiz bank ready to import into Kahoot or Blooket.
-
Task 1, ready to go: notification, test paper, marking guidelines and sample responses.
-
A case bank of 14 cases, including NZYQ, Roach, Love, Boilermakers, Robodebt and Whaling in the Antarctic. Each has its citation, key facts and links to official sources.
-
Planning done: a unit program with learning intentions and success criteria for every dot point, plus a scope and sequence and an assessment schedule.
Why you’ll like it
-
Hours saved every week: open the deck, print the worksheet and teach.
-
Checked facts: cases and dates are checked against official sources. Anything I couldn’t confirm is flagged in the notes, so it isn’t taught as fact.
-
Fully editable: Word, PowerPoint and Excel files you can adapt to your class.
