A novel study for Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo. Student workbook + teacher booklet, built on The Writing Revolution. For Year 3 and Year 4 classrooms and homeschool families.
Why Because of Winn-Dixie
This is the book where one scruffy dog changes everything.
Opal walks into the Winn-Dixie supermarket and walks out with a stray dog. That dog leads her straight into new friendships across her small town — a librarian, a pet store manager, even a boy she can’t stand at first.
It’s a story about friendship and how an ordinary pet can change a child’s whole world. Warm, funny and quietly deep, it’s just right for Year 3 and 4 readers.

Why this works
The same activities every week, on purpose. Consistent activities mean students spend their thinking on the book — not on working out what each new worksheet is asking. Built on The Writing Revolution: structured sentence and paragraph writing that proves a point about a novel.
This is for you if
- You teach Because of Winn-Dixie as a class novel in Year 3 or Year 4
- You want comprehension and writing built around a story your students will care about
- You’re a homeschool parent wanting a ready-to-go unit for a quality novel
- You’d rather print and teach than design from scratch
Made by a teacher librarian, not AI
I read every word of every book personally. I write every question and every model response myself. In a market flooded with AI units that don’t align to the actual text — this one does.
