My Weekend Recount and Snapshot
My Weekend Snapshot is a fun and reflective writing activity designed to kick off the week with purpose and connection. This differentiated recount resource encourages students to think back on their weekend experiences, share them creatively, and practise their writing skills.
Students begin by drawing three simple pictures in the snapshot boxes to illustrate what they did over the weekend. They then complete a weekend feelings check-in, reflecting on how they felt. Finally, they write sentences to recount their weekend activities and emotions, combining both creativity and literacy.
✨ Why this activity is important on Mondays:
Starting the week with a structured weekend reflection allows students to settle back into the classroom routine while giving them a voice. It provides:
- A chance to share personal experiences, building classroom community.
- A smooth transition from home to school by acknowledging and validating student feelings.
- An engaging way to practice recount writing, sentence building, and self-expression.
- Insight for teachers into student wellbeing, helping support social-emotional development.
This activity is perfect for Monday morning routines, morning work, or as a writing centre task.
With differentiated versions included, it’s suitable for a range of abilities in your classroom.
