Time Travellers | Narrative Writing Unit | Years 3–6 | Creative Writing Activities
Help students develop their narrative writing skills with a structured, time-travel themed writing unit for Years 3–6.
Time Travellers: A Narrative Writing Journey is an 8-activity resource designed to support students as they learn how to plan and write an engaging narrative.
Each activity focuses on a different element of narrative writing, with visual prompts, writing examples, explicit teaching points and scaffolded tasks to help students practise their skills.
Students work through the different stages of storytelling, from developing an interesting opening and believable characters to building suspense, creating a complication and writing a satisfying ending.
The activities can be taught as a complete narrative writing unit or used individually to target specific writing skills.

Teaching Notes
This resource is designed to break narrative writing into smaller, manageable skills.
Students explore each technique through a combination of visual stimuli, modelled examples, planning activities and short writing tasks.
The time-travel theme provides a starting point for discussion and imagination, but students are not required to follow the exact storyline shown in the illustrations. They can develop their own ideas and use the techniques in different narrative contexts.
Teachers can work through the activities in sequence or select individual pages to support particular writing goals.
