Seeds on the Move
K–2 Inquiry Resource Bundle
How do seeds travel and begin to grow?
A seed drifting through the air, catching on clothing or beginning to sprout can open up so many questions.
Seeds on the Move invites children to look closely, follow their curiosity and explore the connections between a seed’s features, its journey and the changes that happen as it begins to grow.
Created for Kindergarten, Prep, Foundation and Years 1–2, this coordinated bundle brings together an illustrated information magazine, a student inquiry journal and a practical Companion Guide. Use it in classrooms, small groups or home learning, with room to follow children’s interests and revisit discoveries over time.

What children can explore
Children are invited to:
Look closely at seeds and compare their shapes, sizes, textures and features.
Explore how wind, water, animals, falling and bursting pods can help seeds move.
Make paper models and notice how different designs move through the air.
Repeat a test, compare what happens and try changing one feature.
Set up a bean watch with an adult and record changes over time.
Connect observations, revisit ideas and share discoveries in their own way.
The language stays concrete and approachable, using terms such as papery wings, fine hairs, coverings, roots, shoots and leaves. Children are supported to distinguish what they have noticed from what they think might explain it.
A flexible inquiry journey
The bundle follows six connected inquiry engagements:
Immersion: Look closely and make room to notice.
Interest: Follow a wondering and choose a question.
Investigation: Plan, test, observe and record.
Integration: Connect clues and revisit thinking.
Imagination: Represent a seed journey or try a new design.
Inspire: Share a discovery and listen to others.
These engagements can be revisited as questions grow.
There is no fixed timetable or expectation to complete every journal page.
Different ways to make learning visible
Children can draw, point, talk, build, demonstrate or take photographs with help. Someone can record their words, allowing their ideas to remain central while writing skills are developing.
The Companion Guide helps educators and families consider comfort, movement, materials, communication and their own pace.
It draws on the Kind Connections Learning 5 Step Implementation Flow to support responsive noticing, planning and reflection.
Using the bundle
Begin with a seed, a photograph or a question that catches the child’s attention. Share a relevant magazine page, choose a journal prompt and return when there is something new to notice.
Experiences use accessible materials such as paper, scissors, a clear container, paper towel and suitable untreated beans. Materials are not supplied.
Adult supervision is required for seed exploration, cutting and model testing. Observation seeds are for watching, not eating.
Digital download: Three printable PDF files in A4 portrait format.
No physical product is supplied.
Make room for a seed, a question and time to look again.
