Sensory Break Cards- Perfect for Lanyard
Equip your classroom with this comprehensive, four-part set of visual sensory break cards designed to support emotional regulation and physical focus throughout the school day. Perfect to wear on a lanyard for instant, on-the-go access by teachers, learning support officers (LSOs), or students.
Why Sensory Breaks Matter for Students with Additional Needs
For students with additional needs—such as autism, ADHD, sensory processing differences, or anxiety—structured sensory and brain breaks are essential tools for self-regulation. These targeted activities help:
Modulate Sensory Input: Provide necessary proprioceptive, vestibular, and tactile input to calm an overwhelmed nervous system or gently awaken an under-stimulated learner.
Reduce Anxiety and Frustration: Visual choices give non-verbal or anxious students a clear, independent way to communicate their needs before behavioural challenges arise.
Improve Focus and Transitions: Regular movement breaks enhance alertness, boost oxygen flow to the brain, and make transitions between seated tasks smoother and more successful.
Flexibility & Use
Cut and Customise: The full set can be kept together as a reference sheet or easily cut into 4 separate sections (or individual cards) to place on a binder ring or lanyard.
-
Diverse Strategies: Includes a wide variety of regulating exercises ranging from heavy work (wall pushes, chair push-ups) to calming visual tracking and deep pressure.
izing Guidelines for Australian Lanyards & Rings
Standard ID Badge Sleeves: Most standard Australian horizontal or vertical PVC ID card pockets (commonly used in schools and workplaces) fit cards measuring 86 mm x 54 mm (the standard CR80 credit card size).
Mini Flip Cards / Ring Decks: If you prefer putting them on a binder ring or keyring without plastic sleeves, a slightly larger format like US-quarter or trade card size (approx. 2.5 inches x 3.5 inches / 63 mm x 88 mm) or 75 mm x 75 mm provides ample room for illustrations and text to remain legible after cutting.
Scaling Your Print: When printing from your PDF viewer or image software, select "Fit to Page" or adjust your custom scaling percentage (typically between 65% and 75% depending on your original canvas resolution) to scale the 4-part sections down to standard badge or pocket dimensions.
Hole Placement: If you are attaching cards directly to a lanyard clip or binder ring without a sleeve, use a standard single-hole punch. Mark your punch location at least 5 mm from the top edge to avoid punching through your text or visual borders.
Corner Rounding: Use a corner-rounding punch tool to clip the sharp laminated corners. This prevents the corners from scratching students or catching on school uniforms during active sensory or movement breaks.
Organizing by Part: If using a binder ring, sequence your cards sequentially from Part 1 through Part 4 so teachers or learning support officers (LSOs) can easily flip through heavy work, calming strategies, and tactile breaks depending on what the student needs in the moment.
