Have you have taught your grade 4 - 6 students the Latin roots: struct, rupt and fort? Are you looking for engaging but challenging ways for them to practice morphology and word building? These morphology task cards are an engaging but challenging way for your students to practice and apply word building using morphemes before they rush into sentence writing.
Linking word-building, meaning making and spelling, Set 2 contains 48 task cards differentiated to support and extend your students.
The first 20 have 3 morphemes (a Latin root and 2 derivational suffixes).
The next 16 task cards increase the complexity of the task, and students make a word using 4 morphemes.
The final 12 cards focus on using inflectional suffixes to make words.
The student response sheet includes a check for understanding. Students identify spelling generalisations they used when creating new words. This reflection encourages students to think about the connection between word building and spelling.
How it works:
Students make multisyllabic words using 3 or 4 morphemes. They write a word sum, before writing the word applying any spelling generalisations.
The task cards are supported by a PowerPoint presentation with a word building activity on each slide. These are provided to give you the flexibility to work as a whole class when introducing or modelling the task to your students.
* British/Australian and U.S. spelling.
